The ID Academy Primer

This is a quick reference table of the ID academies/programs out there.

  • The presence/absence of an academy/certificate on this list is not an endorsement for or indictment against any academy/certificate.
  • Please do your due diligence by reading reviews, speaking to former members, or comparing the offerings to arrive at an informed decision.

The fields marked with (s) may contain subjective information. The Freebies Value rating is an indicator of the freebies provided by the academy/institute outside of its paid programs, based on publicly available information (website, youtube, open social groups).

If you'd like a customized plan for different budgets ($0, $1500, or $5000), please scroll past this table.

Resources to Help You Transition to Instructional Design or Learning Experience Design

In this section, you will find recommendations for over 70 podcasts, 40 youtube channels, 1000+ free tools, 100+ folks to follow on LinkedIn, 10 beautiful learning experiences, resume/LinkedIn optimization tools, and other miscellaneous resources.

Instructional Design Podcasts

Here's a collection of podcasts that I listen to. I have my favorites as of now, but I feel it would be unfair to rank them based on that. As I listen to more episodes in each of these podcasts, I'll be able to rate their content/usefulness for transitioning IDs more accurately.

For now, I can recommend the Hidden Brain podcast, which isn't focused on ID but has a lot of content surrounding learning, brain behavior, and human behavior in the workplace.

Instructional Design YouTube Channels

I've arrived at a rating (High/Moderate/Low) for these channels based on what I think would be valuable to new IDs. This rating is not a reflection of the quality of content. Some of the channels that are rated "Low" may indeed have high-quality content, but this content may be apt for someone who's further along in their journey as an ID.
